How to Style your OOTN

This look post is all about how to style an outfit for a night out. I’ll explain the process that went into putting the look together and provide you with some context about it too.

Noir is the new black. Black is a colour that is sophisticated, works well on all skin types and gives the wearer a sense of comfort. In the fast-paced world of fashion, one can be rest assured that black is the go-to that isn’t going anywhere. For this look, I kept it all black, choosing to instead mix it up with texture.

The importance of texture is underrated. It lends itself to the senses of both sight and touch. Interior design, food, architecture and fashion are some of the industries where texture is explored for its ability to enhance creativity and aesthetics. Here, I have chosen to wear a statement piece: a mesh top. Beneath this edgy layer is lace, a textural contrast,  creating a sense of allure.

Assembling a balanced look comes through the knowledge of your body and fashion. Being short, the midi skirt with a slit elongates my legs. The corset and cropped mesh top are both fitted, enhancing my body’s petite frame and ‘pear shape’. The skin shown through the slit in the skirt is also balanced out by the glimpse of skin seen through the mesh top.

Now, for the context. This outfit was put together for a monthly event that I enjoy going to with my friends: The WKND Social. It is an urban event, hence the sneakers. In terms of makeup, I placed emphasis on my eyes with black eyeliner and opted for dark lipstick.
